Timeline of Amaravati’s hardships and achievements
10/3/2013 The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization ACT, an Act of the Indian Parliament that partitioned the state of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and the residuary Andhra Pradesh state, was approved by the Union Cabinet during its meeting.
12/5/2013 The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization ACT was introduced on the first day of the winter session in the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh. Bill was later rejected by the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on 30 January 2014.
2/13/2014 Speaker Meira Kumar introduced the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization ACT bill at 12:00 p.m in Lok Sabha. The Seemandhra (non-Telangana) MPs in the parliament were strong in their efforts to halt the bill, resulting in a significant amount of disruption of proceedings and the shouting of slogans during that time. In the parliament, the Indian National Congress party MPs attacked the anti-Telangana protestors, and the MP Lagadapati Rajagopal used pepper spray. Subsequently, he stated that he was attacked by several Congress MPs from other states and was compelled to use it in self-defense. The parliament was subsequently adjourned from 12:05 pm to 02:00 pm.
2/18/2014 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supported the Telangana Bill, which was passed by the Voice Vote in the Lok Sabha. The live telecast of the House was interrupted, and the doors and galleries were sealed. The leaders of Seemandhra have accused the United Progressive Alliance government of pursuing it for electoral purposes and have declared it a “black day” for the Indian parliament.
2/20/2014 The Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament, passed the Telangana bill with the backing of the BJP. The speaker rejected the request for division from MPs from a lot of parties. Ultimately, the bill was approved through a voice vote.
3/28/2014 The central government established an expert committee led by Sri K.C. Sivarama Krishnan, I.A.S., to provide a report on the most appropriate capital location within six months of the reorganization Act’s implementation, which is 31-08-2014. The committee submitted its report on 28.7.2014, providing a variety of alternatives without providing any specific recommendations. The State Government was thus left to make the decision. The report was transmitted to the state government by the central government.
9/1/2014 The capital of Andhra Pradesh was finalized. A resolution was passed by the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly on 03-09-2014 to establish a green field capital city as a livable, environmentally sustainable people’s capital. The capital was to be located between the cities of Vijayawada and Guntur, on the banks of the Krishna River.
12/23/2014 The APCRDA ACT was approved by Loksabha on December 23, 2024. Later on the 30th, the AP government notified the establishment of the APCRDA Act and the CRDA authority. The government notified a 217.23 square mile area as the capital city.
1/1/2015 The acquisition of land for the construction of the capital city began on 1/1/2015 and completed on February 28, 2015. In just two months, 20510 farmers gave a total of 32469 acres.
6/6/2015 Amaravati City Bhoomi Puja (ground-breaking ceremony) by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu
10/22/2015 Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the capital city of Amaravati at Uddhandrayunipalem in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

10/8/2017 CM Chandrababu Naidu establishes the $1.8 billion BRS Medicity at Dondapadu village, Amaravati. The anticipated $1.8 billion investment by BRS Ventures and Holdings in Andhra Pradesh is a move in the right direction toward altering the country’s approaches to medical education, research, and development.
16/11/2018 Amaravati hosted the second-ever F1H2O World Championship Grand Prix to be held in India, from November 16–18. The occasion garnered significant media coverage, particularly after one of the teams adopted the state’s name and color to become the first-ever Indian-branded F1H2O team.
27/12/2018 Chandra Babu Naidu lays foundation stone for Andhra Pradesh Permanent secretariat towers
17/1/2018 Xavier School of Management (XLRI), the first management institute to be established in Amaravati, was laid its foundation by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The institute, which will be built on 50 acres in the village of Inavolu, is capable of accommodating 5,000 students. The institution’s proposal for an international school would receive eight acres of land in the capital, according to the CM.
3/2/2019 CJI lays foundation stone for Andhra High Court in Amaravati.
15/7/2019 The $300 million Amaravati capital finance project was shelved by the World Bank, which issued a statement stating that “India withdrawn its request for financing the Amaravati project.”
24/7/2019 The Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank has canceled $200 million in funding for the Amaravati capital city project.
13/9/2019 The government formed an expert panel committee led by G.N. Rao to examine the Amaravati development plans and provide a comprehensive development plan for the state’s overall development, including the capital. The panel later suggested moving ‘some of the capital functions’ to other areas in form of Decentralized Government
12/11/2019 The Singapore consortium, which included Ascendas-Singbridge and Sembcorp, withdrew from the capital city startup area project after the state government opted not to proceed with it due to other priorities.
17/12/2019 The then-chief minister, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, announced that Andhra Pradesh would have three capitals: Amaravati in coastal Andhra as the legislative capital with the state assembly, Visakhapatnam in Uttarandhra as the administrative capital with the state secretariat, and Kurnool in Rayalaseema as the judicial capital with the high court.
17/12/2019 Within hours of the announcement of Jagan’s Three Capitals, Amaravati, particularly Thullur, and other parts of the capital region saw violent protests.
20/2/2020 HCL Technologies started operations at its Kesarapalli global development centre, Amaravati
23/11/2021 The three-capital measure was withdrawn by the state government, giving the impression that the government bowed to the protesters’ demands. A few hours later, though, Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy declared that the administration was going to draft a “better and more comprehensive” three-capital bill.
5/3/2022 The High Court of AP ruled that the government could not give up on Amaravati’s development as the capital after farmers agreed to part with 33,000 acres of land against the APCRDA’s plan, and after ₹15,000 crore was spent on development costs. It demanded that Amaravati be developed by the government in six months. After filing an appeal with the Supreme Court, the government was granted a stay on the judgement regarding developing the city within six months.
31/1/2023 In his speech to a meeting, regarding an impending investment summit in Vizag, The then-chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy stated that Visakhapatnam will become the new capital.
